Chewy Junior

I was walking around the 3rd floor of SM with my little sister Joanna. I found this little shop that was named Chewy Junior. It had a cute interior and I was attracted by the lighting. I wasn't familiar with this shop because I don't usually pass this area of SM and I rarely visit SM as well. It is located behind Bo's Coffee, going to the cinemas.
the entrance alone already makes me smile :)

I found that this shop specialized in gorgeous FRESHLY BAKED cream puffs. They had a regular size and they also had mini puffs that you can order individually (only for the regular size) or by box. They already have branches in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, UK, UAE and of course the Philippines! Branches in the Philippines are in SM MOA, SM Megamall, SM City Cebu, Greenbelt 3 and Trinoma.

freshly baked!!! <3
These actually remind me of Krispy Kreme (which I can't wait to have here in Cebu sooon!), cream puff version! So cute! They have plain, deluxe and premium flavors. And they even have a Design Your Own (DYO) choice. Just buy a plain cream puff and add toppings at 12 php each.

And I did love it! Crisp on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. Nom nom nom! Chewy Junior definitely made me fall in love with cream puffs. Something I was never that attracted to in the first place. :)

Christmas Treat All Year

 Hello, foodies!

Yes, I'm still alive. School has just been running me crazy. This week is midterms exam week and next week is intrams so you might not hear from me again for quite a while because I'm part of the volleyball team and practice is demanding. Anyhoo, here's what I've got for you today. Hope you like it. :)

Cafe Laguna has undoubtedly embedded childhood gastronomic memories in each Cebuano and continues to do so. Among their many delightful dishes I've had, puto bumbong still stands to be on top of the list. It is one of those dishes you should NEVER miss when dining at Cafe Laguna.
Puto bumbong belongs to the kakanin group of dishes in Filipino cuisine .  It's a violet sticky rice topped with margarine, mature coconut strips and granulated sugar, served warm. No Pinoy Christmas is ever complete without this simple, comforting dish. Kakanin is a term for Philippine snacks usually containing any or a combination of glutinous rice, coconut milk, rice flour, coconut, and cassava.

It wasn't much of an appeal to me back in my years until early high school because I just didn't think rice is dessert-worthy. I've always been a fruit addict since birth. But puto bumbong changed that perception and I just fell in love with it the first time I tasted it. It initiated my respect for kakanin. It was just so attractive for me and it tasted even better than it looked.

If I'm not mistaken, Cafe Laguna is the only place you can find puto bumbong all year in Cebu City. And at a reasonable price of 75 php considering the availability.

I'm desperately CRAAAVIIING.

By the way, I'm a die hard fan of Cafe Laguna. I'd love to work for them; they're a Filipino cuisine icon for me. I bow to them. A living proof of humble beginnings that are given due recognition.
