Hey, foodies!

Just wanted to show you a pic of what I'll be stuffing my mouth with tomorrow for the Dong Juan Burger Challenge. It's gonna look like this but with chili paste in between the patties. Whew!

Red Hot Double D. Double Dare Challenge

CALLING ALL HARDCORE FOODIES!
A RED HOT CHALLENGE HAS COME UP!

Dong Juan is stirring up the city with a burger eating challenge called the
"Dong Juan Red Hot Double D, Double Dare Challenge"

It's rare to find eating challenges in Cebu so this is really interesting and I'm definitely up for it; not exactly to bring home the bacon (although that would be totally awesome) but at least experience it.

The challenge imposes one to devour a DOUBLE PATTY chili burger as fast as possible. Looks like it's about who has the biggest mouth and most calloused tongue. :))

The challenge was launched last October 20 and lasts til November 30. And the first record was set at 2 mins 46 secs by a team member of the Cebu Red Dragons. And the latest update stated that the new record is 1 min 44 secs! *Gulp! Battle is on from 2-5 pm at all branches - One Mango, Persimmon and Guadalupe.

The last time I ate here (at the Persimmon), I had their chili burger and it definitely stung my nose and tongue. And that was the regular serving. Imagine one with a double patty and added chili! Let's see how this goes for me.

I'll be taking the challenge on Monday, Oct. 31. I'm pretty nervous about it but I also wanna represent the girls team. They say that I'll be the first female to participate so far. I'm gonna need Adam Richman from Man Vs. Food for this. I'll try to get some strategies from him.  ;)

Wish me the best! Hope you guys could be there to cheer me on and watch me unleash my piggy powers. Or better yet, join me in the challenge! :3

Cebu Secret Chows: Lunch Date at a Hidden Paradise

....I meant "at a (restaurant) hidden (in) paradise (village)". Okay, scrap that.

I'm talking about this tiny restobar called 30 Kitchen I've heard about from a few guys including my brother, located right outside Paradise Village, Banilad. A friend who's been encouraging me to check it out recently gave me the urge to dine there as soon as I had the budget.
The entrance door was like that of an apartment (well, if it didn't have the clear glass panel)... see? Do forgive me, I totally forgot to ask why it was named so because I was just so excited to get in and see what meets my taste buds. :D

I loved that the interiors were light blue! It gave a Mediterranean feel to the place. They also had quite a wide range of menu. You can practically eat here all day. From breky, to brunch, lunch, coffee, dinner and  alcohol time. They have French toasts, sandwiches, pasta, appetizers you can have with coffee, alcohol, or as starters for your meals and you'll have to ask for the cake of the day for your dessert. I wanted to try their toasts & dips and quesadillas which came in several flavors but my date didn't match my appetite so I had to have just enough for me to eat. They also had different kinds of Monte Cristo sandwiches.

If you're wondering who my date was....

meet Denise!
friends since grade school :)
spicy sausage pasta
Denise enjoying her pasta
The overcooked pasta disappointed me but at least the sauce was okay. Italian, the way I like it. Pasta was around Php 140-160.

As for me, I had a hard time taking my pick because I wanted to have everything. All their fish dishes sounded good but the waitress said the Mediterranean fish fillet was most ordered. They had fish fillet in pesto sauce and another recipe with sour cream dill.
pan-fried fish fillet with tomatoes, onions and olives in balsamic @ php 170
The fish was perfectly seasoned and I loved the tart sweetness the balsamic gave to the vegetable toppings. Oh so good. And that's not enough....

I couldn't resist the French toast. I had to try one at least for dessert. And boy was I happy when it was served. Wouldn't you be? :D
This was the star of the meal for me. They use home-made jam and wheat bread. Still quite pricey though. But I guess that's the cost of being too lazy to make your own at home. :)

Tip: Add P20 for a scoop of ice cream
Regular French toasts with jams are at P80
mango jam, nutella and vanilla ice cream on wheat French toast @ php 100
The effect of this feast?
happy and filled up to the throat

Babe for Food in action:
ha! gobbled up. easy as pie. :)
my mouse or ratatouille face. scary or silly? :))
that's how i'll look if someone tries to grab my food.

It was so hot that the car was like a sauna when we got in. I had to sit on newspaper to save my butt from being seared.

So overall, the place was chill but because it was too small anything was audible. I don't commend the service though because the waitress/cashier made me feel like she was just doing her job. She wasn't courteous or natural enough for great service. But I think the place would be really nice for coffee or drinks after dinner. A lot of the items on the menu are worth trying. The servings are huge! Good for 2.

Price range: Php 80-280

Sunday Craze

Hello there, foodies!

I was at BTC today and it was my first time to visit the mall inside on a Sunday. I've heard that organic vegetables were sold here every Sunday but I didn't expect that the display would be as it was when I saw it. It was such a delightful sight!

There were different stalls selling organic herbs and fresh vegetables along with some native delicacies and wonderful pastries such as cupcakes, assorted flavored sylvannas (i love!!!), and brownies and also specialty breads and there were even free tastings. There was also an interesting Indian specialty stall that sold packs of basic Indian spices in a set. Oh, it was just so exciting for me to see all this but unfortunately I didn't have moolah and I didn't bring my camera because I didn't expect to find anything interesting today. So I didn't get to take any pictures at all. I should always be prepared next time then.

No worries, I am determined to visit again and take pictures of this weekly food fest. Something new to look forward to on Sundays, don't you think? :)

Til then....

Hey, foodies!

Here's more pics of my practical final exam. Poke fun at me all you want. :p

what's she gotta say?
Whew! :)
on the edge of glory :)

I forgot the eggs for the rice! Lol. My bad. I wasn't too happy with my plating either. I have to admit, I let the jitters get to me a bit. But overall, I was happy I cooked all by myself again after months! It felt so liberating, like I could breathe again. :)

'Til my next kitchen episodes...

Food Fair!

Hello, foodies!

Last Tuesday, I found that there was a food fair at CAFA (College of Architecture and Fine Arts) building in school for the whole week culminated by Third Year Advertising students for their finals. I wasn't able to bring my camera then so I decided to go to school a little early on Thursday (my class at this building is only on T-TH, you see) so I could show you guys what went on. These students designed their own booths and brainstormed their concepts. I always love seeing young entrepreneurship in F&B on display! :D
a bird's eye view of the scene
study area turned dining hall! :D
The first thing I popped in my mouth was....
Mocha Magnifico by Sweet Tooth... because I have a sweet tooth! :)

Mocha Magnifico @ Php 18 - graham crackers with mocha cream and stick-o
brownies and cupcakes
lovely ladies behind the sweet booth :)
Next stop.... Hmmm...
GUYS selling cute bite-sized pancakes for Php 10 each. :))
watch :)
strawberry oreo in the center
finishing touches
You're given a choice of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry for your oreo in your pancake. It's not really rocket science but it was cute. Who doesn't love oreos? I prefer crushing the oreos and mixing them in the batter though for a more even distribution. :)
next stop: PANWICH OVERLOAD
more pancakes! this time, chopped up and topped with whipped cream and fresh mango or banana or choco chip Php 15 each. :D
i'm a fruity kind so I chose the fresh mango topping. i loved it!

fresh fruits! <3
i got a watermelon smoothie for Php 35!
Anything with fresh fruits, I love! The Fruit Bar would have been a perfect snack for me but I wouldn't be staying in that building for the afternoon so I got the watermelon smoothie instead. They offered really cheap fresh fruit salad, fresh fruit shakes and smoothies! Their smoothies were made of 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream instead of sugar and milk. :D

Frapz & Fry. My last stop.
their menu: Frozen Bliss, Sublime and Nutella
I got NUTELLA, of course. :)
Frapz & Fry was like a mini Starbucks. I didn't get to take a pic of me with my drink because I was already late for class and my exam. I didn't see what they "fried" either. My drink was good but they weren't using a heavy duty blender or osterizer so it still had ice bits.

You guys should know I was eating all these for brunch. :))

And here are the other booths I wasn't able to taste. All this eating was burning my wallet. Lol.
The Yellow Fruit: my favorite booth design
their menu: banana crepe and banana split
This was my favorite booth design because it was very relevant to the concept. I loved that they used indigenous materials like mat weaving and they even had a monkey that could light up on their name.
La Casa con Queso
They had beef tacos, burritos and nachos. I wanted to try their products but I didn't have time and money anymore. Haha.

swarmed
I'd have to say this was the most brilliant booth. Who can resist good old street food - PUSO, SIOMAI, TEMPURA, NGOHIONG? They also had cheese sticks. I had this for lunch. Just 2 pcs. puso and 3 pcs. siomai. I think the only thing they lacked was GINABOT; our national flower, CHICHARONG BULAKLAK. :D

They were always swarmed come lunch time though.
This Victorian cafe-themed booth was also attractive. They also served good frappes but I wasn't able to get any since I opted for the Nutella from Frapz & Fry.

Overall, I'm sure this fair was a success and I really was impressed by these advertising students.

Hope you guys enjoyed this post! :)
