Sineguelas a.k.a Spanish Plum is said to be a "childhood memory fruit". True enough, this was a part of my childhood and one of the fruits I was naturally fond of. These shiny, maroon greenish plums with large piths can be eaten unripe or ripe. It is bright green with an astringent feel when unripe and eaten paired with rock salt. When ripe, it is purple or maroon and soft and sweet. It is also friendly to diabetics! I remember Gary Valenciano saying these were his favorite fruits once in an interview on TV.
I personally enjoy this ripe, when it has a crunch to the bite with a sweet and juicy flesh. :)
These can be bought in local markets and groceries at P80-100/kg.
