KPub BBQ: KPop Meat-All-You-Can + GIVEAWAY!

Hello, world! I’m alive! Haha! Since I’ve been away from the blog for some time now, I want to make up for it with a GIVEAWAY for my first blog post! I’m giving away a P1,000 gift certificate for the newest and coolest Korean restaurant in town. Read on to find out what it has to offer!

Samgyupsal is my favorite Korean food and I often have terrible cravings for this. I love grilled food and I find that Korean samgyupsal is one of the tastiest grilled dishes I’ve tasted, and its interactive D-I-Y nature makes it really fun, too. As if samgyupsal couldn’t get any cooler, KPub BBQ has just brought it to a whole new level. You can’t miss this new huge restaurant at Ayala Terraces, with its psychedelic-themed façade and interior.

It may not look like a restaurant from the outside but that’s because it’s no ordinary restaurant. This 600-square meter dining space features a main dining hall, six VIP rooms, a smoking area, an al fresco area that can seat up to 350 people, PLUS, it’s equipped with a stage and band set-up, state-of-the-art lights and sound system, and three large LED screens. That makes it a perfect venue for just about any corporate gathering and special event such as product launches, concerts, birthday parties, acquaintance parties, graduation parties, and the likes.

Kpub BBQ first opened in The Fort, Bonifacio Global City in Manila in 2013. This is the first branch outside Metro Manila, bringing in a downtown Seoul vibe with a Kpop theme. But, rest assured, you certainly don’t have to be a Kpop fan to dine here.

The restaurant offers 4 packages to choose from—Eat & Run, Eat & Run Level Up, No Limits, and To the Max—all featuring selected barbecue main dishes to be cooked on the smokeless grill top on each table, along with accompanying side dishes and special sauces.

So, how does one eat “samgyupsal?” Basically, diners get to grill their own food or have a server assist them if they do not know how to cook, and an array of side dishes and sauces are arranged on the table.

In fundamentals, it’s about the 4 main components:
  • Meat
  • Sauces
  • Side dishes/condiments
  • Lettuce

When the meat is cooked, you dip it in your choice of sauce/s and place it in a lettuce leaf along with your preferred side dishes like kimchi or dried crispy anchovies and wrap it into a sort of, pouch that you can pop into your mouth. This is really what makes it a personalized dining experience—your mix of sauces and side dishes to make your own samgyupsal wrap.

I personally like to dip my meat in the sesame oil with salt & pepper and some chili sauce, top with some crispy anchovies and some kimchi, wrap it up and pop into my mouth. Yum! Once you pop, you can’t stop!

Eat & Run—P499+

This is perfect for people who have time-limited lunch breaks. If you’re looking for a satisfying meal and can’t bother with having to choose items from a menu, this is for you. You can’t go wrong with the basics.

It includes 1 hour of unlimited servings of seven signature meat dishes:

Beef sukiyaki
Pork belly
Korean-style bacon
Marinated pork belly in sweet & spicy sauce
Marinated pork chop
Marinated chicken in sweet & spicy sauce
Marinated chicken in sweet soy sauce

It also includes a variety of appetizing side dishes:

Cabbage kimchi
Mashed Potato with Egg
Onions with chili
Cucumber kimchi
Tofu Kimchi
Anchovies

Still more, steamed egg, kimchi panjeon (Korean pancake), house salad, lettuce, soup of the day, and a choice of kimchi fried rice or steamed rice.

Eat & Run Level Up—P699+

If you want some seafood along with your meat, I recommend you go for this package which includes everything on the Eat & Run package, still with 1 hour grilling time, plus the following seafood and meat dishes:

Garlic butter shrimp
Marinated fish fillet
Japchae
Fish tofu
Calamari
Lamb Chorizo
Pizza in 4 flavors: kimchi & cheese, tomato & cheese, bulgogi, and spicy pork

I particularly enjoy the lamb chorizo and pizza in this package.

No Limits—P899+

Now, this is where the ultimate Meat-All-You-Can experience begins, offering UNLIMITED grilling time and all of the 12 signature meat choices including premium beef selections:

KPub So Galbi (marinated beef short rib)
L-A Galbi (marinated cross-cut beef short rib)
So Bulgogi (marinated beef slice in sweet soy sauce)
Dwaeji Bulgogi (marinated pork slice in sweet soy sauce)

I definitely enjoyed the premium beef selections, so succulent after grilling and which then make such tasty lettuce wraps. Along with these meat are also the additions of dried seaweed roll with kimchi or beef bulgogi, bibimbap and the best part, DESSERT—Korean ice cream!

To the Max—P999+

If you’re the ultimate samgyupsal junkie (or you just have a really huge appetite), this package is for you. All of the above for two hours plus the ff.:

Salmon belly
Salmon steak
Fresh prawns
Crab sticks
Tempura platter (ebi, crab and vegetable)
Seafood pizza
Seafood kimbab
Seafood japchae
Fried dumplings
Assorted vegetables
Fried spring roll

But that’s not all, this place also carries the Korean chicken brand, Oppa!, introduced for the first time in the country. If you want to eat this the Korean way, you gotta have it with beer.

KPub also offers an a la carte menu of authentic Korean favorites such as bibimbap, japchae, odeng tang, and seafood pajeon, which you can enjoy with their cocktails or just as a meal if you don’t feel like taking on the samgyupsal sets.

Looking at the 4 main components of samgyupsal, it’s actually quite healthy considering the meat is grilled and as long as you stick with the lettuce instead of or after having a cup of rice with your meats. I’ll gladly talk about the basics of healthy eating in another post.

Meanwhile, I’d also like to add “Diet Tips” to every post hereon to guide you with healthy eating even when you’re eating out.

Diet tips:
  1. Eat a maximum of 1 cup of rice. Stick to lettuce afterwards. ;)
  2. Choose grilled and baked dishes instead of deep fried dishes.
  3. Kimchi is highly encouraged because it has probiotics developed in the fermentation process, which promotes good digestion.
  4. Water is always the best beverage choice.
  5. If you drink beer, just limit to 1 bottle for ladies or 2 bottles for men.

And finally, as promised, here’s a giveaway to make up for my absence. I’m giving away a P1,000 gift certificate so you can try this new restaurant at Ayala! You can use this GC to try the Eat & Run package for 2 people. This giveaway will run from February 20 - 26 only!
