Cebu Secret Chows: Good Vibes

There are so many awesome places in Cebu that I have yet to visit and TOPS is one of them. This is where you get the best view of Cebu with an entrance fee of just P100. It is located at Busay. Well, I finally did get to step foot on this historical landmark the last week and never have I seen such a breathtaking view of the city.
TOPS: Conquered! :D
This adventure was a casual afternoon out with band friends (Drop Decay - you should check them out. Genuine local talent. Here's one of their videos. Be a fan!) and a close friend, Denise. Tony drove us up the hills late in the afternoon and even the trip to the top was an experience to treasure. You're taken to a whole new dimension of the city. And this is why it is a popular spot for lovers. It's like a tiny piece of Baguio in Cebu. :D

Denise and I - yes, I have Snow White for a friend. :D
There are benches to savor the view and even a viewing telescope. There are also some stalls that sell souvenirs and some food and refreshments but it's twice the price from the city's so better bring your own food and drinks if you don't want to burn your pockets. ;)

They even have furniture made out of recycled materials! Awesome resourcefulness. The best way to enjoy the view is to watch the sunset and the city lights go up as the night settles in. And of course, with good company. ;)

Looking for love? This might help. :))

Okay, so this isn't entirely about food but hey, it's Cebu. Gotta love it. :D

But anyway, after a great time at the Tops, we all headed back down to the city for dinner.... at Vibes! This has long been on my list for Cebu's secret chows, known for its delectable and affordable Indian fusion chicken meals. It's not just fried chicken!

Vibes Gourmet is a carenderia behind Cebu Doctor's Hospital popular among doctors, medical students, hospital staff, office employees, especially Persians or Indians, and even anyone else who has heard about this from friends. I've only tasted their lemon chicken once from a takeout by friends but I was  finally able to check it out personally.. a bit buzzed. :p

their menu

Denise's order: Teriyaki - P85
my Cajun chicken - P85
the musicians :D
It looked like a regular spacious cafeteria and I noticed that most of the items on their menu are less than P100 except for their specialties. I asked my friends which item they usually ordered and they said it's the Cajun chicken meal, so this is what I had along with the rest of them. Tender, juicy and served hot - the perfect way for chicken to be enjoyed. Nom nom nom! Definitely a satisfying meal I'd go back for.

Denise had the Chicken Teriyaki which we found to be a bigger serving than ours although ours were fillets and hers was a whole wing. Our food was served considerably promptly, within 10-15 minutes.

I have heard from several friends before that this place is owned by a Chinese and only uses authentic spices (which by the way, are pretty pricey). They do not serve dishes that have incomplete ingredients which depicts the passion and dedication they have for serving genuine food. I would've loved to try one of their specialties but I went with flow of the group that day. Nevertheless, I shall return!

I also noticed a drum set at a corner so I'm guessing they have bands at times but no one was playing when we were there. It's actually a wonder how this pocket resto has gained popularity and a loyal following despite their daring recipes and location but it is definitely one worth visiting when you want a kick of great food with genuine spices that you'd normally find in gourmet restaurants or authentic Indian resto's. I certainly enjoyed my visit and I'd love to get a special next time.

Price range: P50 - P150

Operating hours: 24 hours? Sorry, I wasn't able to ask. :3

  4. I loved this place. Upon arriving in Cebu, I asked one of my Cebuano friends to take me to a hole-in-the-wall, and he recommended Vibe's.

I totally agree with this: "To know Cebu, eat Cebu!" That's all I did when I was there for 5 days. =))

Anyway, I was wondering if I could use some of your pics on my blog (http://pepesamson.blogspot.com)? With proper credit of course. And a link to this post of yours. Thank you!

  6. The herb chicken I had last night at Vibes was so good. It paired nicely with the heavenly blueberry fruit shake. The best thing is that 2 years after you published this post Jus, their prices are still the same. I will definitely return for more. :)
